Originally I made this image for an AIGA Los Angelos publication in 2004. Originating from my typography approaches I applied cutting out one figure out of the other to achieve dimensionality in the flat black and white space. Since then it became my signature approach of visualizing complex articulations simplified in pictographic images. Simultaneously I wrote this text about dancing as a matter of keeping balance. No matter how or what. One step after the other.

The typeface – Nevermind – was originally designed in 2003 as MK4SR for a one off project commemorating the deceased Californian designer and teacher at CCA, Steve Renick in a book spread. Ultimately, the font turned out to perfectly combine with my style of images. It was renamed and published by FontFont with a regular version and italics added.
